‘The way is the goal!’ is the motto of tourer, cruiser and enduro captains on their trips. And not just in summer. As is well known, wonderful tours can also be enjoyed in spring and autumn. However, an important prerequisite for year-round fun is a really comfortable motorbike combination that keeps out the cold and wet just as well as it dissipates heat from the body. The Dutch clothing specialist REV'IT is launching a new touring line for men called Neptune 3 GTX with GORE-TEX fabric, which should score highly in this area.
REV'IT Neptune 3 GTX jacket
The REV'IT Neptune 3 GTX jacket is made from a flexible two-layered GORE-TEX Nylon 400D fabric. The outer layer is made of robust nylon. The breathable GORE-TEX membrane is directly bonded to the outer material. This results in the high protection level AA (for abrasion and tear resistance, among other things) and the jacket's excellent climatic properties. The protective function is enhanced by level 2 shoulder and elbow protectors, while back and chest protectors can be retrofitted.
Old hands know that warm jackets quickly become too warm in summer. In contrast, the thermal lining of the Neptuno 3 GTX can be removed. On the other hand, the jacket is equipped with two large panels on the chest that can be opened with a zip to ensure optimum ventilation. Thanks to its ‘Aquadefence’ fastening system, REV'IT promises that the closed panels remain as waterproof as the entire GORE-TEX construction, even in heavy downpours. The adjustable and tight-fitting collar and the waterproof zips round off the impression of a high-quality and particularly weatherproof touring jacket. The current colours are black or black-dark green.
REV'IT Neptune 3 GTX trousers
The REV'IT Neptune 3 GTX trousers are also made from the comparatively flexible 2L GORE-TEX Nylon 400D fabric. In the seat and crotch area, which is particularly susceptible to water ingress, it is a three-layer 3L GORE-TEX Nylon 400D fabric. The trousers have Level 1 hip protectors and Level 2 knee protectors and have a Class AA safety rating.
The thermal lining can also be removed for heat regulation and fresh air can be supplied through large panels on the thighs (also with Aquadefence system). The trousers are connected to the jacket at the back via two zips of different sizes. The zips on the trouser pockets are waterproof. The trousers are available in black or grey-black.
Our verdict: The REV'IT Neptune 3 GTX jacket and trousers are very well thought out and impress with their comfortable fit and good workmanship. With this combination, nothing stands in the way of extended motorbike tours, from spring to autumn.
